About Delaware

Delaware, "The First State" is known by this title because on December 7, 1787, it became the first of the 13 original states to ratify the U.S. Constitution.  Delaware is also known as "The Diamond State" because it has been described as a "jewel" among states, due to its strategic location on the Eastern Seaboard of United States.  Delaware is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and the Delaware Bay, as well as by New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland.  Delaware's location affords easy access to the major metropolitan areas of the Northeast.  Wilmington, Delaware is a mere 30 minute drive from Philadelphia, PA and within 2 hours of Atlantic City, New York and Washington, D.C.

Delaware has much to offer, from its Historical attractions to the summer fun of the Delaware Beaches.

The University of Delaware's faculty and students have achieved the highest standards of accomplishment in undergraduate research and discovery learning.  The University of Delaware is a national standard to be emulated by research universities throughout America.  Full Article: http://www.udel.edu/PR/UDaily/2003/boardres052903.html
